The U. S. Embassy in Yaoundé is seeking an individual for the position ofCarpenter.
Basic Function of Position:
Incumbent performs all carpentry work (repair and fabrication) for residences and office buildings. Duties include: building and repairing formica covered kitchen cabinets, tables and shelves; fabricating valences, working tables, storage shelves, doors, and windows; framing and screening of windows and patios, picture frames and small items; fabricating roofing structures and solid security doors; installing roofing sheets and security locks or combination; doing routine maintenance of all equipment in the carpentry shop; doing general painting and carpeting of floors and producing wooden forms for concrete structures. Incumbent also provides assistance to other crafts as needed and assists in the supervision of local contractors on special assignment.
Qualifications Required:
Note: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Education: Completion of Elementary school plus four years carpentry study/training in a technical/vocational school or any recognized institution is required.
2. Experience: At least two years of journeyman carpenter work experience in a large institution or international organization is required..
3. Language: Level II (Basic Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English and French is required and will be tested.
4. Knowledge: Must be able to read and understand instruction manuals for tools, equipment, drawing and sketches. Job knowledge will be tested.
5. Skills/Abilities: Must be able to use all tools in the trade such as power saws, drills, files, wood lathes, routers and do skilled finish work. Must have basic skills for other crafts such as masonry, welding, painting, etc. Skills and abilities will be tested.
SELECTION PROCESS:
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
4. Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
6. The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a Locally Employed Staff security clearance.
