LOCAL STUDENT INTERNSHIP
Local School Internship
The U.S. Embassy in Yaounde has an opening for a non-salaried intern.
Open to: Any non-US Citizen student who has graduated from High-school or the local equivalent, and is enrolled, not less than half-time, in a trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university or comparable recognized educational establishment.
Opening Date: February 24, 2012
Closing Date: March 9, 2012
Duration of Internship: 8 weeks – dates by arrangement
Work Hours: Part-time – hours by arrangement
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITIONS:
Based in the Public Diplomacy (PD) section of the U.S. Embassy and working in coordination with the embassy’s Education Adviser, identifies schools and universities whose students will benefit from sustained outreach about higher education opportunities in the U.S. Coordinates outreach with institution contacts or student groups, including time, location, advertisement, etc. Uses provided materials to prepare for and deliver a series of lectures on the process of applying to U.S. universities, modifying the curriculum and themes to fit local needs and areas of interest. Develops EducationUSA Cameroon’s website and social media presence in coordination with the local Adviser and other EducationUSA Student Ambassadors. Reports weekly to the PD section as part of the Center Report System (collect event highlights and pictures/video). Assigns follow-up and check progress of students involved with the Center’s group advising and outreach events, and reports on student successes.
Qualifications Required:
1. Fluency in English and French
2. Experience of and excellence in public speaking.
3. Knowledge of U.S. higher education opportunities, U.S. educational system and/or U.S. Department of State educational exchange program(s).
4. Ability to forge and develop connections and work cooperatively with partners and stakeholders from various sectors including higher education communities, government, and private companies.
5. Intermediate level Computer/Internet/social media skills.
Other Requirements
1. Applicant must be a bona fide student; graduated from secondary school and currently enrolled not less than half-time at a recognized educational institution.
2. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
3. Applicant must have Medical Insurance
4. Successful applicant must be prepared to travel to, and work based in, Yaounde – no expenses will be paid.
