The U. S. Embassy in Yaoundé is seeking an individual for the position of Electrician.
Basic Function of Position
Incumbent performs journeyman level electrical work, involving installation, maintenance and repair on all USG properties. Duties include: installation and maintenance of automatic voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches, transient voltage surge suppressors, electrical panels, fire alarm systems, alarm systems appliances, electrical outlets, ceiling fans, air conditioners, water heaters, etc…, in accordance with established trade practices and methods.

Qualifications Required
Note: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Education: Completion of elementary school and four years electrical studies and training in a recognized technical or vocational institution is required.
2. Experience: At least two years of journeyman electrical work experience in a large commercial or international organization is required.
3. Language: Level II (Basic Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English and level II (Basic Knowledge) Speaking/Reading French are required and will be tested.
4. Job Knowledge: Must have full journeyman knowledge of established practices and procedures of the electrical trade. Must have knowledge of mathematics as they apply to physics and electricity. General electrical knowledge of Generator is required. Job knowledge will be tested.
5. Skills/Abilities: Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and instruction manuals on installation and repair of equipment and appliances. Must be able to safely use all tools of trade such as meters, testing equipment, power tools and equipment.
SELECTION PROCESS:
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
4. Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
6. The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a Locally Employed Staff security clearance.
